Matt Hancock’s resignation explanation sparked a mixed reaction during Thursday’s edition of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
The former health secretary stepped down from his position last year after CCTV footage of him kissing his aide, and ultimately broke social distancing guidelines.
The scandal sent shockwaves through Westminster, which prompted intense backlash and widespread calls for him to go.
Mr Hancock is currently at the centre of a media storm following his arrival on this year’s ITV series, which also features the likes of Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver, 80s icon Boy George and royal Mike Tindall.
In tonight’s installment, the politician weighed in on comedian Babatunde Aleshe’s love for conspiracy theories.
Mr Hancock claimed he resigned because he knew how ‘people felt’ (Picture: ITV)
‘One said Bill Gates and I conspired to create the vaccine for Covid in order to put microchips in all the vaccines in order to control people,’ Mr Hancock said.
After confirming that the theory was in fact false, he added: ‘A lot of people had difficult times and then to see people who set the rules broke them, it was a slap in the face.
‘I know how people felt and that’s why I resigned. Because I know how people felt. So, good on you for saying that.’
However, viewers slammed Mr Hancock’s claim, with one writing: ‘Matt Hancock did not resign because he knew how people felt, it was because he was caught on camera flouting his own rules.’
‘If you knew how people felt why didn’t you follow the rules too make it make senses babes,’ another added.
‘You know how people felt!?! I don’t think you do,’ a third person wrote.
The attention was on Mr Hancock’s scandal as Babatunde wasted no time in quizzing the politician over his love life.

‘I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it’s no excuse, but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences obviously,’ he told the Celebrity Gogglebox star.
