Chris Moyles hit back at Matt Hancock’s honesty after the former health secretary admitted he was looking for ‘forgiveness’ over his lockdown ‘mistakes’.

Hancock joined the likes of Mike Tindall and Charlene White on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! earlier this week, and so far we’ve seen him break out into an Ed Sheeran song, squirm under a downpour of slurry, and admit he ‘fell in love’ before resigning as health secretary in a scandal that rocked the nation.

The former health secretary stepped down from his position last year after CCTV footage of him kissing his aide, and ultimately broke social distancing guidelines.

The scandal sent shockwaves through Westminster, which prompted intense backlash and widespread calls for him to go.

He has since faced controversy for joining the reality TV show, and his campmates haven’t been impressed either.

Tonight they grilled him over his lockdown ‘mistake’, after Chris asked him: ‘You got a lockdown fine, didn’t you?’

Hancock replied: ‘No, of course, I didn’t. No I did not. I didn’t break any…’

After Chris interrupted with: ‘You were socialising with someone outside of your household,’ Hancock insisted: ‘I didn’t break any laws. Guidance is different.’

Charlene White also told Hancock that ‘sorry doesn’t really cut it’, for stories like hers after she emotionally shared her aunt died during the pandemic, and how she had to sit by herself during the funeral and was unable to hug her family because they were following guidance.

Hancock later told Charlene: ‘Do you know what it is actually, what I’m really looking for is a bit of forgiveness, that’s what I’m really looking for.’

‘We all make mistakes, I made a pretty big one,’ he added, before saying in the Bush Telegraph: ‘I wasn’t really expecting it, but it did get very emotional.’

However, Chris didn’t seem to buy it.

He afterwards told Scarlette Douglas: ‘It was the last thing he said, “I think I’m here for forgiveness”. Then, I wanted to go, “Forgiveness for what Matt? What are you sorry for? Are you sorry for being caught? Are you sorry for having an affair? Are you sorry for making bad decisions? Are you sorry for lying? What? What?”

‘If you’re going to be real, be real. I’m trying to be as real as I can and when I think he’s not being real it’s bugging me and I don’t know why.

‘We’ve all made mistakes and you put your hands up and you’re honest.

‘If you’re at that point where you genuinely feel that bad, you go, I’m sorry and you take it, I’m sorry.’

He continued: ‘He’s trying to portray that he’s being totally honest and it’s eating away at me.

‘It’s a real struggle.’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV.
