Cardi B has paid tribute to Takeoff following his death aged 28, expressing how much ‘pain and sorrow’ his loved ones are feeling over his loss.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the rapper – real name Kirshnik Khari Ball – had died in a shooting in Houston, with it later being confirmed that he was killed by a ‘stray bullet’.

The hip hop artist was a member of rap group Migos alongside his uncle Quavo, real name Quavious Keyate Marshall, and his cousin-once-removed Offset, real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus.

A public memorial, dubbed a ‘celebration of life’, took place in Takeoff’s honour on Friday November 11 in Atlanta, Georgia, which was attended by friends, family, fans and members of the music industry.

On the day of the memorial, Cardi B – who’s married to Offset – shared a compilation of pictures of Takeoff on Instagram, writing in the caption: ‘Takeoff your untimely passing has brought a great deal of pain and sorrow to so many lives.

‘The impact you had in this world was so considerable and we have struggled to grasp this tragedy.’

The Bodak Yellow rapper said she feels ‘heartbroken’, but is also ‘grateful for all the precious memories we got to share while you were here with us’.

‘This has truly been a nightmare and the pain is incomparable. The emptiness your brothers are feeling is unbearable and I pray that you give Offset ,Quavo, and your friends and family the strength to keep going as they are trying to cope with this loss,’ she wrote.

‘I believe that angels send signs and beautiful dreams to loved ones to assure them that they’re watching them and they’re okay and happy…send your mom some of those 🙏🏽.’

Cardi wrote that as a fan of her husband’s hip hop group, it ‘hurts’ her to look at photos and videos of them together and listening to their songs ‘that changed the music industry and moved the culture and had the clubs lit’.

‘It hurts because I know it will never be the same again—but I know your bros and y’all fans will make sure the world never forgets the impact you made,’ she said.

‘I will remember your remarkable talent and your dope ass personality. I pray that you are at peace and in paradise because you deserve every bit of it. I know God opened the heavenly gates for you with a warm embrace. Rest in power TakeOff 🚀💔I will also love you 4L & after.’

In the statement announcing Takeoff’s death, a spokesperson said: ‘It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirshnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff.

‘Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated. Please respect his family and friends as we all continue to process this monumental loss.’
