Hamza Yassin was in floods of tears after an emotional and incredible performance ‘celebrating his African roots’.
The Strictly Come Dancing star, who was born in Sudan, opened up on his background in a recorded VT, saying that he ‘moved over to the UK when I was eight’.
He continued: ‘When I came to the UK and started school, I didn’t speak word of English, and then I struggled at school not knowing I was dyslexic.
‘In a world where you have to be able to read and write, wildlife was my language.’
Dedicating the dance to his family, the 32-year-old added: ‘Family means the world to me, my parents have gone through a lot, the only reason I am where I am now is because of my parents.’
Hamza and his dance partner Jowita Przystal were showered with support after their emotional performance, with judge Motsi Mabuse fighting to hold back tears.

She said: ‘I feel like this is a very difficult dance to speak about, I feel like maybe sometimes people won’t even understand, I never thought I would see this on Strictly Come Dancing.
‘When you look at dancing and study dancing, as you know I came from South Africa, and the origins of so many of our dancing, even today, Charleston, Salsa, Rumba, Jive, all of these dances where they originated from, and to have them acknowledged on this big stage and remind peolpe that we are here, we are dancing, and we are celebrating.
‘To see you do that for me is such a special, special, special feeling.’

She then jokingly added: ‘Girl, Jowita, I think you should do a DNA test girl, I’m taking you with me to Africa because if they see you dancing like that, you’re never coming back.’
Meanwhile, Shirley Ballas called him ‘incredible’ while Anton Du Beke labelled him ‘sunshine’.
‘You are sunshine, you are joy,’ he told a tearful Hamza, continuing: ‘Your body does ridiculous things, your lifts, I would like to come to you and you teach me how you do those lifts.

‘You are remarkable.’
‘Dancing is in your soul,’ Craig Revel-Horwood added.
Things took an even more emotional turn when Hamza was shown a video of his grandmother and aunt gushing over him.
