Entering the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! camp was a nerve-wracking process for comedian Seann Walsh after he was at the centre of a snogging scandal a few years back.

While he didn’t have much to worry about when disgraced MP Matt Hancock walked in beside him, and has copped most of the criticism to date, it wasn’t that long ago that Seann was facing public scrutiny.

At the time of signing up for Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, Seann had been in a five-year relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries, who most recently had a starring role in Ten Percent, the British remake of the hit French series Call My Agent!

But on the same night that Seann left his partner at home on her birthday in 2018, he was snapped kissing his professional dance partner, Katya Jones, outside a pub in London.

To say that snog generated some controversy would be an understatement.

The incident became so infamous that Seann was dubbed the ‘Strictly snogger’, and his reputation with the public lay in tatters, which wasn’t helped with a damning statement from Rebecca that accused him of coercive control.

In 2022 Seann is back on our screens and has recently announced his expecting his first child with girlfriend Grace Adderley, but will appearing on the beloved ITV reality series help redeem him?

Who is Seann Walsh’s ex-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries?

While this Strictly scandal dragged Rebecca into the headlines, away from the drama she had already been making a name for herself on the stage and screen.

Back in 2018 the actress had played Molly in National Theatre Live: The Kitchen and had starring roles in the TV shows Big Bad World, Cockroaches and The Agency.

While she found herself at the centre of stories for all the wrong reasons, and for nothing she’d actually done herself, a few years down the line her career has gone from strength to strength.

In 2020 she played Caroline in Trigonometry and Carol Thatcher in the fourth season of The Crown.

Mostly recently she’s been in Ten Percent, but she’s also been busy writing her memoir, Why Did You Stay?: A memoir about self-worth.

Released in July, the book reframed what we’d seen and heard about the Scandal, and allowed Rebecca to tell it all from her perspective, reclaiming her identity from the very public victimhood she was put through.

What did she say in a statement at the time?

The day after the photos of the kiss were published she tweeted a statement which began: ‘My name is Rebecca Humphries and I am not a victim.’

It then went on to describe that how Walsh allegedly called her ‘mental’ and ‘psycho’ whenever she questioned ‘inappropriate or hurtful behaviour’.

But she continued: ‘this whole business has served to remind me that I am a strong, capable person who is now free’.

Her tweet went viral, and today it has more than 82,000 likes.

As she wrote in an opinion piece last month : ‘For a brief while, I was one half of the poster couple for toxic love’.

‘I hadn’t even known that love shouldn’t look like it did for us, that an insidious loss of joy, opinion and confidence wasn’t what was required of me.’

Who was Rebecca Humphries in The Crown?

As actors of the latest season of the Netflix drama would attest, there is a lot of focus on just who is cast to play real life figures of the Royal family.

While Rebecca luckily didn’t have to worry too much about being under the spotlight for any criticisms that might come about historical accuracy or particular scandalous incidents, she did take on the role of Margaret Thatcher’s daughter, Carol.

With little source material, bar one clip from breakfast TV in the 1980s, Rebecca previously said she had to study that video ‘like the scriptures’.

‘If you step on to The Crown without doing your research, you’ll get shown up in seconds,’ she told the Guardian earlier this year.

Playing the daughter of Gillian Anderson was a daunting task too.

‘Gillian is an utter powerhouse, but being intimidated lent itself to the dynamic between Thatcher and Carol,’ she added.

I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9pm on ITV.
