Seth Rogen feels a deep affinity with the pizza-eating turtles who live in the sewers, and says his new film will reflect this.

The Pineapple Express actor, 40, is working on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) film, which is set to be released next year.

Seth and his team are working round the clock to to make the fully-animated film, titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, the best it can be, with the actor now explaining the movie feels ‘deeply personal.’

In an interview with The AV Club, the TMNT producer said: ‘We found a way to make it deeply personal.

‘It’s a teenage movie, we’re putting a lot of our own feelings — of awkwardness and insecurity and a desire to belong and be accepted and all that — into the movie.

‘And as I sit around with the other people working on [the film], I’m like, “We found a way to care about this,” which is great.’

He went on to say TMNT is ‘something I loved as a kid,’ and revealed they are working on other childhood favourites, including a Darkwing Duck show.

‘That becomes a fun part of the challenge: How do you infuse more and more of yourself into your work? I think the more of yourself you put in, the more people like it.’

Seth first revealed that he would be working with Nickelodeon on a new TMNT movie with a tweet in June 2021.

The post showed a page of notes and doodles supposedly written by the turtles’ leader, Leonardo, with the date August 11, 2023, in the corner.

Seth’s long-term collaborator Evan Goldberg is tied to the project, alongside James Weaver, and will be co-directed by Jeff Rowe, writer of Netflix film The Mitchells vs The Machines, and storyboard artist Kyler Spears.
