Takeoff remembered at emotional memorial in Atlanta after Migos rapper’s death at 28-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

A memorial has taken place in Atlanta to honor rapper Takeoff, following his death at the age of 28.

The Migos rapper was shot and killed at the age of 28, while attending a private party in Houston, with uncle and bandmate Quavo.

His death sparked a police investigation to find those responsible, but officers have yet to share an update on their findings.

In the wake of their loss, his family hosted a celebration of life earlier today at Atlanta’s State Farm, to remember the musician.

Justin Bieber was among those who was slated to perform at the ceremony.

His family requested for all guests to adhere to a ‘strict no photo and no video policy’, and for donations to be made to the Rocket foundation in lieu of gifts or flowers.

During the ceremony, Drake shared tales of times he spent with Takeoff and Migos on tour, comparing their friendship to the Rat Pack, which he grew up watching on TV.

Migos’s Offset and Quavo also left the audience in tears as they spoke about their bandmate as ‘family’ in emotional speeches.

Takeoff, real name Kirshnick Khari Ball, was a founding member of Migos, beside fellow bandmates Quavo and Offset.

The trio were hugely popular with fans – with their most popular tracks including MotorSport, Stir Fry, Walk It Talk It and Bad and Boujee.

The late star was attending a private party at a bowling alley at the end of last month, when he was shot and killed.

Houston Police confirmed that he died at the scene, and pleaded for any information from others in attendance on what occurred.

During a press conference, Police Chief Troy Finner said: ‘I got many calls from Houston, and outside of Houston. Everyone spoke of what a great young man this is, how peaceful he is. What a great artist. I’m calling upon everybody, our hip-hop artists in Houston and around the nation.

‘We’ve got to police ourselves. There are so many talented individuals, men and women, in that community, who I love and respect. We all need to stand together and make sure that nobody tears down that industry.’

‘I’m calling you to action, to step up. There were 40 people, at least, at this event,’ he added.

‘I ask you one thing, and I want this to resonate with everybody. What if it was your brother? What if it was your son? You would want somebody to step up, so please step up.

‘Get the information to us so we can bring some closure to this family who is hurting right now.’
