Women’s Aid has shared a tweet directed at ITV, calling on the programme to consider ‘not platforming alleged abusers minimising their actions on screen’ on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Over the past couple of days, comedian Seann Walsh has opened up in the jungle about the cheating scandal that landed him in hot water on Strictly Come Dancing four years ago, when he kissed his married professional partner Katya Jones while in a relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries.

Having been photographed kissing Katya outside of rehearsals, the comedian said on Thursday’s episode that the incident was the ‘worst moment of my life’, before adding in Friday’s episode that the controversy was a ‘catalyst’ for him to change his life.

After the kiss made headlines in the media, Seann’s now ex-girlfriend Rebecca shared that when she questioned if anything ‘inappropriate’ was going on, ‘he aggressively, and repeatedly, called me a psycho/nuts/mental. As he has done countless times throughout our relationship when I’ve questioned his inappropriate, hurtful behaviour’.

This year, Rebecca spoke to Jada Pinkett Smith on the American actress’ Red Table Talk series, stating: ‘I say that gaslighting feels like tiny poison arrows and you don’t notice them, they’re so light, but what they do is they inject poison into your body until poison is just pumping around your veins and you don’t even know.’

While Women’s Aid did not mention Seann by name in their new tweet, the charity opened their message to ITV by stating: ‘Imagine experiencing gaslighting by a partner, undergoing therapy, and then watching that person garner sympathy on national TV?’

We ask @ITV @imacelebrity to consider in their edit not platforming alleged abusers minimising their actions on screen.

Solidarity with survivors 💜

The organisation continued: ‘We ask @ITV @imacelebrity to consider in their edit not platforming alleged abusers minimising their actions on screen. Solidarity with survivors.’

A spokesperson for Women’s Aid added to Metro.co.uk: ‘We tweeted to reflect the voices of survivors, who are watching television and seeing men who have allegedly been abusive to intimate partners being given a platform and sympathy.

‘We tagged ITV, who we often speak to if there is something we are concerned about, to flag that in future edits to be mindful of this, as changing and controlling the narrative can be part of abusive behaviour.’

ITV declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.

Seann’s ex Rebecca previously received support from Scottish Women’s Aid for speaking out in 2018, with the organisation quote-tweeting her statement and adding: ‘Believe in yourself and your instincts. It’s more than lying. It’s controlling.’

Ahead of his stint on I’m A Celebrity, Seann admitted he was ‘very scared’ to be joining the show after his Strictly scandal.

‘I want to create new memories,’ he added,’ explaining that his current partner Grace Adderley convinced him to enter the jungle.

‘Grace talked me into doing it. She convinced me it was the wrong attitude to have not doing it because I feared what people would think, but to do it because I would have a wonderful time,’ he said.

Metro.co.uk has also contacted representatives of Seann Walsh for comment.

I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9pm on ITV.
