Aaron Carter did not leave a will when he died earlier this month, aged 34, according to reports.

The child star was found at his home in California on Saturday, November 5, with reps for the I Want Candy popstar confirming his shocking death.

‘We are extremely saddened and shocked to confirm the passing of Aaron Carter today,’ they said at the time.

They added: ‘We ask that you give the family time and they will have more information when available,’ stating that a cause of death is being investigated.

Now, it’s been reported that the State of California will decide who inherits Carter’s estate.

It’s no secret that they had a turbulent relationship, after going public with their romance in January 2020.

As a result, the LA County Department of Children and Family Services reportedly got involved and had Prince removed from their home, and he’s been living with Martin’s mother since September.

According to TMZ, family sources say the star was still advised by his attorney to make a will, as he had a child who depended on him, but he did not.

However, the outlet adds that, in most States, including California, when a single person dies without a will and leaves a child behind, the child will inherit their parent’s estate.

They also claim that Carter was ‘not in a good place financially’ when he died, with a source close to him saying he was ‘living hand-to-mouth.’

He was reportedly spending his earning rapidly, but his house was also up for sale.

Shortly after news of Carter’s death broke, Martin released a short statement saying: ‘We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.’

Additionally, out of respect, the publisher of Carter’s memoir have now delayed the release of his memoir.

Ballas Books initially had plans to release Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life on November 15, which they announced just days after his death.

However, following backlash and accusations of making a ‘heartless money grab,’ the publishers have decided against it.

Attorney Scott Atherton, founder of Atherton Galardi Mullen and Reeder PLLC, who represents Ballast Books and author Andy Symonds, said in a statement: ‘Out of respect for the Carter family, my client has decided to defer the further release of the book at this time. Mr Carter was not just a celebrity but also a father, a brother, a son, and a friend to many still grieving for him.’

The lawyer also noted that ‘public attention has recently focused on a small number of interactions during Mr Carter’s early years.’
