Alec Baldwin sues Rust crew and armourer for negligence to clear name after Halyna Hutchins death -Kim Novak-Entertainment – Metro

Alec Baldwin is suing the crew involved in handling and supplying the prop gun which misfired killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust last year.
The actor, 64, has filed a cross-complaint in Los Angeles’s superior court alleging negligence against armourer Hannah Guttierez-Reed, prop master Sarah Zachry, first assistant director and safety coordinator David Halls and ammunition supplier Seth Kenney and his company, PDQ Arm & Prop, all of which have previously denied responsibility for the fatal shooting.
The above are some of the people sued by script supervisor, Mamie Mitchell and Baldwin’s suit seeks among other things a share of any damages that Mitchell may win from Guttierez-Reed, Zachry, Halls and Kenney, as well as paying any damages assessed against him.
Baldwin has filed the suit to ‘clear his name’ in the incident, after claiming he has lost out on work due to his association with the fatal accident.
He had been holding the gun when it fired a live round, fatally wounding Hutchins on set in October 2021 and injuring director Joel Souza.
Mitchell, who had been standing behind Hutchins at the time of the incident, had sued Baldwin, who was a producer on the film, as well as the production company and others involved for assault and negligence.

In his cross-complaint, Baldwin states that neither he nor Hutchins had known the gun contained a live round as they worked on camera angles during a rehearsal for the scene.
The lawsuit says: ‘This tragedy occurred on a movie set – not a gun range, not a battlefield, not a location where even a remote possibility should exist that a gun would contain live ammunition.’
Baldwin has always maintained that he was told the gun was safe and that he did not pull the trigger despite a recent forensic report from the FBI finding that the gun could not have fired unless the trigger was pulled.
The lawsuit also states that Baldwin has lost opportunities and been fired from jobs in the wake of the tragedy, adding: ‘More than anyone else on that set, Baldwin has been wrongfully viewed as the perpetrator of this tragedy. By these cross-claims, Baldwin seeks to clear his name.’
New Mexico’s medical investigators office had found found the shooting to be accidental, however prosecutors are reviewing whether criminal charges should be filed.
