Takeoff was honoured by stars including his bandmates Offset and Quavo, as well as fellow musicians including Cardi B, Drake, and Justin Bieber, during a celebration of life following his death at the age of 28.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the rapper – real name Kirshnik Khari Ball – had died in a shooting in Houston, with it later being confirmed that he was killed by a ‘stray bullet’.

The public memorial took place on Friday November 11 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was attended by friends, family, and members of the music industry, as well as around 21,000 fans.

Photos of the memorial saw Quavo and Offset giving a speech, as well as Justin and Drake performing.

Cardi, who wrote a heartfelt tribute on social media, was seated next to her husband Offset, with the pair both listening intently.

A clip of Quavo’s eulogy has circulated social media, with the rapper saying that, since his childhood, Takeoff had ‘been by my side, looking up at me with them eyes, same eyes you got as you got as my sister, waiting on me to make the next move, then you followed up right behind me. You always made sure I did it first so you could do it right with me.’

He also recalled: ‘You never competed with me. We was always on the same team, ‘cause you hated playing against me ‘cause I always played too hard or too rough. And I could hear Momma saying: “Not too rough, son,” ‘cause I ain’t like to lose.’

Drake also gave a heartfelt eulogy, hailing his late friend as ‘forever balanced,’ and adding: ‘Whenever he would take his shades off, he had this thing about him that I loved – no matter what was going on around us he was, like, always kinda squinting but like his eyes were wide open.’

Takeoff’s mother and siblings also gave speeches.

Justin took to the stage and performed an acoustic version of his song Ghost, while stars including Chloe Bailey and gospel singer Yolanda Adams also performed in Takeoff’s honour.

Mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, also honoured the late star with a civilian award.

An official obituary read: ‘There are no words or sentiments conveyed that could aptly encompass the love so many had for him and the impact he made on this world.

‘Takeoff would want the world to see the light in what he created and keep lifting each other up and supporting the creations people put into the world. He’s now up there with the stars he loved so much and remains in all our ethers on a daily basis, living on through his music and the love he brought to so many.’

Cardi also spoke out on social media on the day of the memorial, writing: ‘Takeoff your untimely passing has brought a great deal of pain and sorrow to so many lives.

‘The impact you had in this world was so considerable and we have struggled to grasp this tragedy.’

The Bodak Yellow rapper said she feels ‘heartbroken’, but is also ‘grateful for all the precious memories we got to share while you were here with us’.

‘This has truly been a nightmare and the pain is incomparable. The emptiness your brothers are feeling is unbearable and I pray that you give Offset ,Quavo, and your friends and family the strength to keep going as they are trying to cope with this loss,’ she wrote.

‘I believe that angels send signs and beautiful dreams to loved ones to assure them that they’re watching them and they’re okay and happy…send your mom some of those 🙏🏽.’

In the statement announcing Takeoff’s death, a spokesperson said: ‘It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirshnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff.

‘Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated. Please respect his family and friends as we all continue to process this monumental loss.’
