Ant and Dec were met with virtual applause after they whipped out the iconic iceberg lettuce after Matt Hancock was elected camp leader during Sunday’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.
During tonight’s episode, viewers and fellow campmates were shocked to learn that the former health secretary was appointed jungle leader, despite his controversial stint on the popular programme.
Just to give you a refresh, the lettuce contest was started by the Daily Star, who began a live stream asking which would survive longer, the vegetable or Liz Truss’ reign as Prime Minister.
Ultimately it was the lettuce that triumphed after Ms Truss stepped down after 45 days in parliament.
As soon as Hancock took his seat on the jungle throne, the camera quickly panned to the Geordie duo who quickly shared their thoughts on the surprise vote.
‘So, a Conservative MP has won a leadership contest against their rival, you know what happens next?’ said Ant.

‘Yeah, you’ve guessed it. We’ll see if he can outlast this,’ Dec quipped as he placed the lettuce on the table.’
‘We’ll be keeping an eye on that lettuce over the next few days to see who will last the longest,’ Ant remarked.
Oh this should be interesting!
Safe to say viewers were living for the iconic reference, with one writing:’Brilliant Lettuce gag there @antanddec Bravo sirs!’
‘I hope in a decade all Tory leaderships are measured in Lettuce,’ another added.
Alongside Hancock, former rugby star Mike Tindall was also appointed as camp leader and chose Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver as his deputy while the politician picked presenter Scarlette Douglas.
Reflecting on the unexpected result, Hancock said: ‘Obviously, it’s a great honour and privilege to be camp leader. I want to thank everybody who voted for me.’

However, Lioness football star Jill Scott represented the nation when she asked the politician: ‘Just to be clear are these guidelines or rules?’
While 80s pop star Boy George declared that neither Hancock or Mike ‘will have any power over me. If I don’t want to do something I won’t do it.’
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
