Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed she had quite the terrifying moment during her new film The Menu, when she had to drive a boat in complete darkness and try not to ‘take out’ any houses.

The Queen’s Gambit actress stars alongside Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult in the highly-anticipated new film, with the actress recalling one particularly challenging night on set.

She told Metro.co.uk at the glitzy premiere: ‘There’s a scene where I got to drive a boat and on that particular night we were doing it, you couldn’t see anything and on either side, it was just land and houses.

‘So I was going at quite a quick pace and I could have definitely taken out someone’s house. I was like, “La la la la la, crossing [my] fingers that I don’t kill anybody.” But it was great!’

It’s those kinds of challenges that make her love the job, as she added of her incredible roles over the years: ‘Every single film requires you to learn different things but that’s one of the beautiful things about this job.’

Referencing her breakout role in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, she continued: ‘You get really good at chess, then you get really good at cold weather exposure, then you get really good at driving a boat in the dark, it’s something that I really enjoy about this job.’

The Menu follows a young couple (Anya and Nicholas) who travel to a remote island to eat at Hawthorne, an exclusive restaurant run by celebrity chef Julian Slowik (Ralph).

However, the chef has some shocking surprises in store for his guests.

Due to the way it was filmed, Anya revealed that she, Nicholas, and the other stars had to be ‘on’ for a fair few hours at a time.

‘I think we were on set for about 12 hours a day and being in character, it’s more when we’re rolling, none of us ever really stepped off set and that was incredible because it just meant that you constantly had to be coming up with new ideas,’ she recalled.

‘And I had the best partner for it, so Nick and I had a blast.’

The Menu is set for release on November 18.
