After just a year, Fortnite’s third chapter is already coming to a close, making it half as long as both of the previous chapters.

It’s difficult for Fortnite to really surprise people anymore. Whenever a new mechanic, change to the map, or crossover is announced, nine times out of 10 it had already leaked beforehand thanks to the game’s legion of dataminers.

However, it seems Epic Games has caught fans off guard with its recent announcement of the current season’s end date.

Not because the season is ending, though, but because it will also mark the beginning of Chapter 4, meaning Chapter 3 will have lasted just a single year and consisted of only four seasons of content.

This makes it far shorter than either of the previous chapters. Fortnite’s first chapter ran for two years – October 2017 to October 2019 – and featured 10 whole seasons.

Chapter 2, meanwhile, was made up of eight seasons but lasted slightly longer, starting right after Chapter 1 in October 2019 and ending in December 2021.

Chapter 3 began the day after on December 5, 2021 and is now scheduled to end on December 3 at 9pm GMT, in just over two weeks’ time, with what Epic Games is calling the Fracture finale event.

Epic Games hasn’t issued any comments on why this chapter is so much shorter than normal, so there’s no telling if this was always going to be the case or if some behind the scenes development has forced it to change its plans.

Regardless, some fans have expressed confusion that they’ll need to say goodbye to Fortnite’s flipped map so soon, since it’s expected to undergo some radical changes with the beginning of Chapter 4.

Others aren’t as bothered and are simply excited to see what Chapter 4 will bring.

Bro how is it already the end of Chapter 3 💀

The way I see it, this chapter was a way of ending the older parts of the lore, answering some of the questions and stuff. Also, remind you, we’re about to get Creative 2.0, so it only makes sense that they would kind of “reset” things here with a new chapter.

One thing already expected for the next chapter is the inclusion of an Unreal editor. Fortnite allows for players to create their own custom gameplay modes and islands, but this new editor will offer more advanced tools, including programmable AI and customisable textures.

It was expected to drop by the end of the year, but Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has recently admitted that the editor’s been delayed to late January 2023.

Considering Fortnite seasons tend to last roughly three to four months, this means it will still be added as part of Chapter 4 Season 1.

Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Sorry folks, the team is working super hard, but the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) has been delayed to late January 2023.
