Georgia Toffolo voted for Matt Hancock to be camp leader on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! less than two weeks after blasting his appearance on the show.

The Made In Chelsea star seems to be taking her own U-turn of sorts, after admitting on Friday that she feels ‘a tiny bit sorry’ for the former health secretary after the reception he has received from his campmates.

On Monday’s episode of This Morning, Georgia suggested the tide might be turning in terms of public opinion after fierce backlash over Hancock joining the show despite breaking his own social distancing rules during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the fact that he is still a sitting MP.

‘I feel like the country are now watching him, thinking about Podium Matt, and they’re watching him in the jungle and thinking, “Ooh!” This show does humanise people. That is what he went in there to do,’ she said.

‘As a viewer, it’s quite tricky to watch someone get so many traumatic things there, all doing it with gusto, with a smile on this face – and doing it incredible well… It’s quite hard not to do, I’m not gonna call it a screeching U-Turn, but to just think, “Actually he might be doing alright.” ‘

Georgia noted that ‘millions of people across the country’ will have agreed with her when she branded his jungle stint as ‘disgraceful’.

However, now she’s admitted she voted for him to become camp leader to inject ‘a bit of friction’ into the show.

She explained: ‘I’ve got a confession, I voted for him to be camp leader. I just think it’s the most insane scenario for those campmates to think, how on earth is this man – who is universally hated, who is now leading camp?

‘I do think we need a bit of friction because I am slightly bored of watching Matt do all of the trials.’

Still, Georgia – who saw a turnaround in her own I’m A Celebrity fortunes when she became group leader and went onto be crowned Queen of the Jungle in 2017 – acknowledged that this could actually help Hancock go all the way.

‘I was voted camp leader and I ended up winning it in the end, so it’s not a crazy thing to think,’ she added.

The reality star also weighed in on Sunday’s episode when Hancock got stung by a scorpion and joked that the world works in ‘wonderful’ ways.

‘Doesn’t the world work in the most mysterious, but on occasion wonderful, ways? I mean they do drill into you, when you’re in there, make sure you keep your bag really tightly locked because there are scorpions around,’ she recalled.

‘I don’t remember in the whole of the time that I’ve been watching the jungle – no one’s been stung by a scorpion before! And it had to be Matt Hancock!’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV. I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm, also on ITV.
