Following the release of his second solo album, Louis Tomlinson has been revealed to be in a tight race with Bruce Springsteen for top spot on the UK album charts.

Former One Direction star Louis unveiled Faith in the Future to his clamouring fans on Friday, following up on single releases of tracks including Silver Tongues and Out Of My System.

The album is currently just in the lead over Bruce’s LP Only the Strong Survive at the midweek mark, with fewer than 1,200 sales separating them in the top two spots, according to Official Charts Company.

Considering 30-year-old Louis had to cancel a string of in-store signings after falling and breaking his arm ‘pretty badly’ following a New York concert on the very day of his album’s release, we hope this news is doing something to ease that pain!

The singer’s debut effort Walls managed to claim number four in February 2020, so this would be the first potential solo number one for Louis.

During his tenure with One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik, Louis enjoyed four number one albums in a row with Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four and Made in the AM.

Bruce, a.k.a The Boss, is competing with his whopping 21st album, Only the Strong Survive.

It’s the second collection of covers in the Streets of Philadelphia singer’s lengthy career, and Only The Strong Survive looks on course to at the least become his 23rd top 10 album in the UK

If he wins the charts battle, it will be his 13th UK number one album.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of Faith in the Future’s release, Louis shared that he had properly embraced his preferred genre of Britpop for the first time as he reflected on what the ‘thought he could have done better’ on Walls.

‘I had a lot more clarity making this record. I knew what it was I wanted to get out of it. And there was an element on my first record where I kind of alluded to my taste musically but never really fully embraced it. I don’t think I was quite brave enough on that first record, so I kind of ran with that idea.’

He added: ‘I just wanted to kind of trust my gut on this record and also lean on the incredible artists that I worked with on it. And I’m really proud of what we’ve got.’
