Strictly Come Dancing’s Tony Adams explained that show bosses gave him the choice to dance during Saturday’s show after sustaining an injury earlier in the week.
During Sunday’s results show, the Arsenal legend and professional partner Katya Jones found themselves in the dreaded dance-off against Tyler West and Dianne Buswell.
However, presenter Tess Daly revealed that the two couples wouldn’t perform again as Tony withdrew from the competition – which resulted in Tyler and Dianne sailing through to this week’s Blackpool special.
During Monday’s It Takes Two, host Rylan Clark asked the former footballer how he felt about leaving the show.
Addressing his injury, he said: ‘I had a little bit of a hammy last week and I went out there and danced, and then on Thursday I pointed my toe down, bit of retraction and went “oof”.
‘We didn’t do anything on Friday and then they gave me the choice, they were very professional the BBC, the physio was first class, they said “it’s your decision Tony, do you want to go for it?”

‘My wife said “my mum’s coming, you’ve got to dance!” I looked into her eyes and she went “Come on!”‘
Dance partner Katya was equally full of praise for Tony during yesterday’s emotional exit, and said she will ‘forever grateful that I was partnered up with you’.
‘Do you know what I loved?’ she asked. ‘I loved us, I loved that we didn’t care what people thought, we did every single dance our way!
‘You have come here with a message, you led by example, and put yourself out there, and showed everyone you can do anything. And everyone deserves love and to be loved! I love you.’
