Next gen console versions of The Witcher 3 will be out this year, but only just – as CD Projekt announce a mid-December launch date.
If you were looking forward to playing The Witcher 3 on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, while eating a tasty turkey sandwich then you’re in luck: turkeys are sold all year round. Plus, the next gen update is coming out on December 14, 2022.
CD Projekt previously promised that it would be out this year and they weren’t lying, but they’ve only made it by the skin of their teeth – which is a little worrying for anyone hoping for a bug-free experience.
Hopefully the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has taught them the necessary lessons about that though, as they promise improved graphics, faster loading, and new content based on The Witcher Netflix series.
The update will be free for anyone that already owns the game on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. So if you don’t, now might be the time to pick it up dirt cheap.
Otherwise the update will be sold as The Witcher 3 Complete Edition, including physical copies, which is bound to make a good Christmas present.
Although it is specifically a next gen update the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch versions will be getting an update too, including the new Netflix content and other, unspecified, improvements.
If that all sounds a little vague to you, that’s because more will be revealed during a special livestream next week.
For now though, we know that it will include ray-tracing support and will officially integrate a variety of fan-made mods, which will probably be the first time most people will have seen them on consoles.
