This Morning viewers weren’t impressed as Gyles Brandreth got his feet out on live television for a spot of ‘sole’ searching.
Celebrity foot reader Jane Sheehan joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Monday’s episode of the show to open up on the idea of learning a lot about a person from the state of their feet.
After a bit of a chat, she was then tasked with assessing a random pair of feet, with the identity of the person kept hidden until she’d had her say, and it was revealed to be Gyles behind the screen.
It’s fair to say people weren’t toe-tally enamoured by the whole turn of events, with viewers taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the whole segment.
One viewer wrote: ‘I didn’t think I had issues with feet but I’m gonna have to change the channel.’
‘If you’re gonna display your feet on national TV, the minimum I expect you to do is have them scrubbed and polished 24 hours previously. Or go to a beauty shop and have a professional do it for you,’ tweeted a different viewer.

‘Why would you get these feet out on national tv,’ asked another person, while a fourth Twitter user simply added: ‘I hate feet’.
After the big unveiling, Gyles admitted he didn’t actually tell his wife he was taking part in the experiment because he knew she’d have tried to change his mind.
‘I must asy, I didn’t tell my wife I was doing this, because she’d have said, “Please scrub your toes!” I’ve never had a pedicure,’ he admitted.

During the reading, Jane – who seemed utterly unfazed and insisted she prefers clients to not have any treatment before they come to see her – said Gyles’ ‘very strong tendon’ was a sign of self discipline, while the elongated second toe on his right foot shows ‘leadership qualities’.
She continued: ‘But it’s gone back into line in the left foot – so in the past leadership qualities, he’s not using them as much anymore. The tip of the big toe is lifted which means he is highly visual – he likes to picture it in his head before he comes to do it.

‘By the time he comes to do it, he feels like he’s done it already. The little toes are really, really on the side, which means unconventional, rebellious – my way or the highway.’
Elsewhere, she said his left third toe ‘has elongated’ which suggests he has ‘more drive and determination’ than he once did, and he thinks ‘he can do twice as much as the next person, given the same time and resources’.
Gyles seemed impressed by the reading, insisting the assessment was pretty accurate.
‘Alarmingly perceptive, don’t you think? My goodness,’ he said. ‘It’s quite interesting, isn’t it? I wouldn’t dispute any of it!’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
