Mark Wahlberg is known for having one of the buffest bodies in the business but it doesn’t come without serious commitment.

The actor, 51, has however revealed that he’s ‘dialled back’ his notoriously strictly diet and fitness regime and now treats himself to a lie in, getting up at 3.30am instead of 2.30am these days.

Mark had revealed in 2018 that he would wake up at 2.30am every day to fit in a morning prayer and an hour and a half workout before starting his day,

He would also have a breakfast of oats, blueberries, peanut butter and eggs which he has now replaced with getting up at 3.30am and instead fasting for 18 hours a day.

Mark revealed in a new interview with the Wall Street Journal that he now wakes up at ‘3.30am to 4am’ and starts his day by downing a bunch of supplements and vitamins, including turmeric and vitamins C and D.

In order to suppress his appetite while doing intermittent fasting, which usually lasts from 6pm until 12pm the following day, Mark has recently started drinking espressos.

His previous regime saw Mark eat up to eight meals a day and take part in numerous workouts, but he claims his new routine has helped him achieve ‘better results’ with fewer hours in the gym and less cardio.

Mark told the outlet he functions best when he is ‘consistent with [his] routine’, explaining: ‘Getting the right amount of rest, really staying focused. My spirituality, my faith has got to be the centre of it all.’

He added: ‘I don’t have to do as much cardio, I don’t have to spend as much time in the gym and I feel like I am getting better results.’

Mark now focuses on weight training rather than cardio and enjoys golf before his window for eating starts at midday, though if he has to train harder in the gym for a role, he further constricts the window by another hour or two of fasting.

Intermittent fasting is said to reduce inflammation and may be able to boost muscle growth, but followers also warn of less pleasant side-effects including hunger pangs which can take the body many weeks to adjust to.

Mark follows the regime at least five days a week and sticks to a bedtime of 7.30pm in order to get up so early and get his admin and other tasks done before everyone else is awake.

He explained: ‘In the morning getting up early, there’s no one around. I’m going through all my emails reaching out to everybody I work with in various respects.

‘I can make a lot of those calls in the morning, if I’m going back and forth to the golf course or when I’m in the car.’

Mark, who is worth a reported $400million (£336million), moved to Las Vegas this year with his wife Rhea Durham and their four children Ella, 19, Michael, 16, Brendan, 14, and Grace, 12, in search of a better lifestyle than they had in Los Angeles.
