YouTube has entered a new era as MrBeast has officially broken PewDiePie’s track record and has become the most subscribed creator on the platform.

American YouTuber MrBeast is best known for his big budget stunt videos, in which he often gifts his subscribers with insane amounts of money for completing tasks.

These tasks range from swimming with sharks to competing in an IRL version of the Squid Game, although everyone always seems happy to take them on.

The videos are incredibly popular, so much so that they’ve helped MrBeast – real name Jimmy Donaldson – overtake PewDiePie as the world’s most subscribed YouTube channel.

To celebrate reaching 100 million subscribers, MrBeast gave away a private island, so now that he’s reached yet another milestone, many are wondering what he’ll do next.

Throughout 2022, MrBeast has been slowly catching up with PewDiePie and he finally managed to overtake him this week.

MrBeast is closing in on 112 million subscribers now, around 80 thousand more than PewDiePie – although things are close enough that it’s not yet a comfortable lead.

The Swedish YouTuber has been retired for some time now, but when he first heard of MrBeast closing in on 100 million subscribers back in July 2022, he was quick to encourage him.

‘I’ve been retired for like two years now. I can’t wait for it to be over,’ he said in a video.

He later added that MrBeast ‘definitely deserves it’ and that he hopes he reaches his goal.

Frick, okay I’ll slow down then

MrBeast is the only YouTube star after PewDiePie to hit the 100 million mark, not counting channels that belong to kids’ shows and record labels.

In fact, MrBeast’s channel is growing faster in subscribers than the world’s population is, at least according to creative producer Gdizzle.

Fellow YouTuber Airrack was one of the first people to point out MrBeast’s achievement and congratulate him. In turn, MrBeast joked that he’s got ‘some catching up’ to do.

You got some catching up to do 😉

Since there’s been a mass exodus from Twitch to YouTube, if top streamers such as xQc and Kai Cenat decide to move permanently, there could eventually be some serious competition for the top spot.

However, at the moment both streamers’ YouTube channels are miles away from threatening MrBeast, who’s likely to stay at number one for a long time to come.
