The 2022 series of The Great British Bake Off is drawing to a close.
Brand new contestants will have to whisk, knead, steam, and sauté to prove they are the Crème de la Crème next year – once either Abdul, Sandro or Syabira has been crowned 2022’s Star Baker.
All three finalists have won a place in the nation’s (and judges’) hearts, just as last year’s champion Giuseppe Dell’Anno did.
But after all that graft, a few Hollywood handshakes, and some Star Baker wins, a cash prize or spin-off show for the overall champion would really be the icing on the cake.
So, what exactly does the winner of The Great British Bake Off receive?
What does The Great British Bake Off winner get?
After competing to get a post amongst the 12 bake-off contestants, and spending weeks sweating it out in the tent of technicals, the best baker will be announced and awarded with a cake stand and some flowers.
That’s it.

There is no big prize fund for the winner, no alluring £100,000 to help them set up the bakery of their dreams – the prize is just the joy of baking and winning the series.
For the bakers who are ultimately crowned series winner, what they lack in prizes from the show itself, they make up from the prizes they gain in exposure.
The first winner of The Great British Bake Off in 2010 was Edd Kimber, who was exposed to an audience of nearly three million on the BBC.
Edd went on to work at Raymond Blanc’s famous pastry kitchen after winning the first Bake Off series.
In the early series of the show, there wasn’t much laid out for the winners of the show – no automatic book signing or TV gigs lined up.

Edd Kimber’s debut book made him £150,000, and two further publications earned £100,000 on top of that, although the baker only took a £37,500 cut. He now has his own YouTube channel.
In 2012, John Whaite won the third series of Bake Off, and has enjoyed a glittering career of TV appearances since. He even opened his own culinary school, and is set to star in a musical.
In 2021, he found a larger audience still on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, where he became a fan favourite and reached the final alongside dance partner Johannes Radebe.
But perhaps the most successful winner of the series is Nadiya Hussain, who came away with the series six title.
Since Nadiya won in 2015, she has become a global sensation with a bestselling cookery book, columns in national magazines and newspapers, plus frequent presenting jobs on Loose Women.

She was even selected to bake Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday cake.
Underdog David Atherton, who bought his first home post-show, was crowned the winner of series 10 in 2019.
Bake Off’s youngest ever victor, University of Edinburgh student Peter Sawkins, 20, took the Star Baker title for series 11 in 2020 – before fan favourite Giuseppe Dell’Anno won in 2021.
Fans will remember that Giuseppe was overcome with emotion following the result.
He said: ‘I don’t say often or lightly that I am proud of what I do, but in this case I am really proud of what I have done – it’s unbelievable.’
