The servers of Warzone 1 will start shutting down soon, though it might not be as permanent as you think.

The release of Call Of Duty: Warzone 2 is getting closer and closer, with the OG battle royale servers preparing to go offline… before they switch back on for Warzone Caldera.

The sequel is set to add a bunch of new features to the original experience, such as aquatic combat and a third person playlist, although nobody would blame you if you’ve started feeling nostalgic about your Warzone 1 days.

And if you don’t feel that way right now most of what was Warzone 1 is being preserved, just in a slightly different form…

When is Warzone 1 shutting down?

Warzone 1 servers are shutting down on Wednesday, November 16, at around 4pm, which is two hours before the sequel launches in the UK.

As for why the servers are shutting down temporarily, Activision says it’s to allow Raven Software – the developer of Warzone 2 – to focus on ensuring the new battle royale is running smoothly in its first weeks.

This will be the end of an era for the Call Of Duty franchise, but there will still be loads of things to anticipate when Season 1 for both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 kicks off. It won’t only add a revamped battle pass to both games, but it’ll also mark the launch of the Hardcore mode, which is for hardcore players.

The servers of Warzone 1 will go back online on Monday, November 28 to support the launch of Warzone Caldera, which Activision claims is an entirely separate game from Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

What is Warzone Caldera?

Even though Caldera is widely known as an existing map in Warzone, Activision claims that in a few weeks’ time you will have ‘two different Warzone games’ you can play: Warzone 2 and Warzone Caldera.

By playing Warzone Caldera, which sounds like a repackaged version of Warzone 1, you’ll get access to all the standard battle royale playlists and content from all previous eligible Call Of Duty games – but nothing from this year’s releases.

There will also no longer be an in-game store, and the Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep maps will not be present.

Activision also said that ‘exciting developments’ for smaller battle royale maps in Warzone 2 are coming in future seasons, possibly hinting at more popular regions getting their own standalone mini-games.

Where to find the Warzone Legacy highlight reel?

For now, besides getting ready for Warzone 2 by preloading it, you can cherish the final moments of Warzone 1 as we know it, and even get a souvenir (kind of).

If you still haven’t deleted Warzone 1 to free up some space for the beefy sequel, you can get your own Legacy video, which highlights both your highs and lows.

The highlight reel will include info such as the first time you dropped into a match, which operator you preferred, and how many falling deaths you’ve had – along with other stats.

To watch the video, you need to visit the My Warzone Legacy site. Once you’re on it, you’ll need to enter your Activision ID, which you can find on your COD profile page, and then your video will be generated automatically.

If you’re brave enough, you can even share the video on social media to compare your stats with your friends. All while Warzone 1 slowly disappears… but only for two weeks.

Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on Wednesday, November 16.
