Looking to throw yourself into the Christmas spirit? Whether you’re hoping to shop, eat or be merry, every Londoner should pay the King’s Cross neighbourhood a visit this winter – where they’ve headed off-piste with a sophisticated après-ski atmosphere.
Though many people know of King’s Cross for its station, Eurostar connections to Europe and Platform 9 3/4, to others it’s a vibrant neighbourhood bustling with creative energy. Whether they’ve sauntered along for a lunch at one of the many restaurants on offer, or an amble around the Queer Britain Museum, visitors often decide to stick around.
Year on year, it’s also becoming one of the most popular shopping spots in London. Any weekend spent shopping in the canalside shopping destination of Coal Drops Yard is a delight but this Christmas, King’s Cross is back with its unique take on merry making.
Not only will the iconic setting of Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard be decked out in a delightful array of decorations, but a host of markets and events will be taking over from one end of winter to the other.
Shop off-piste to find unique gifts like no other – you’re sure to find something for even the hardest to please
When ticking names off the Christmas list this year, steer clear of the overwhelming bustle of Oxford Street and instead explore this trend-setting neighbourhood.
In the King’s Cross neighbourhood, you’ll discover unique gifts you won’t find anywhere else and, once you’re done, it’s the perfect place to reward yourself with your favourite tipple and watch on as the stylish crowds stroll by from one of the world’s most prestigious art colleges.
So, it’s also no surprise that King’s Cross have launched their Christmas with style icon, Fashion Santa, as he makes his UK debut from across the pond.
From crafts to curling, here’s why a visit to this traffic-free wonderland should be in every Londoner’s calendar this festive season…

Soak up the après-ski
Drawing inspiration from the Alpine slopes and chalets of ski holidays gone by, the King’s Cross neighbourhood will be decked out in a style reminiscent of the picturesque foothills of Mont Blanc.
Making every visit worthwhile, if only for the social feed, are three spectacularly designed festive trees in Battle Bridge Place, Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard. Bask in the glow of their lights as you pose for pictures with your loved ones.
Just like Fashion Santa, you too can enjoy a delicious alpine cocktails at Club Curling’s new après-ski bar

And the best part? You’ll also be doing some good as you’re having fun. King’s Cross will be donating a portion of the ticket proceeds to homelessness charities Shelter and New Horizon to provide support for those who need it most this winter.
What’s winter without a Christmas market?
The soaring popularity of the Christmas market is undeniable, and at King’s Cross it’s easy to see why – from the mouth-watering food stalls to the friendly craftsmen selling their wares. They’ll be hosting a stellar line-up of London’s best artisan traders and independent designer-makers at themed Christmas markets from mid-November.
While you’ll find a quirky mix of homewares and clothes at the Lower Stable Street market each Thursday to Sunday, and extra-festive goods at the Canopy market, open Tuesday to Sunday, 1st – 22nd December, you can also anticipate more than a few unexpected delights.
The centrepiece of Coal Drops Yard is the 47-foot alpine ski-themed tree, illuminated with striking neon lights
The Drops Christmas market, for example, will primarily be featuring stalls by up-and-coming designers, many of whom studied just around the corner at famed art school, Central Saint Martins.
You’ll also find international treats from the furthest stretches of the globe at the Mexican Christmas market and the Shotenghai pan Asian market. They’re the ultimate place to shop when it comes to buying for those ‘hard to buy for’ friends.
Also, be sure to make a note of the upcoming vintage ski-wear pop-up coming this January, where Beyond Retro and Boutique by Shelter will be offering the jazziest ski suits and envy-inducing snow boots.
Fuel the festivities
To keep the fun going, book yourself a table and enjoy course after course of delicious food – all just a snowball’s throw from the action. Seasonal gastronomy will be on the menu at the over 50 bars, cafés and restaurants in the neighbourhood.
