Jay Leno is expected to make a ‘full recovery’ after suffering painful burns in a terrifying petrol fire.

The former Tonight Show host was rushed to hospital for treatment after a car in his garage ‘erupted into flames’ while he was working on it.

Dr Peter Grossman, who is treating the 72-year-old, offered an update on his health during a press conference – explaining that his injuries are ‘fairly significant’, and a mix between second-degree and possibly some third-degree burns.

‘When got pulled out from the area underneath the car, it was noted that he had pretty significant burns to face and hands,’ various media outlets reported that he said.

‘His burns include his face, his hands, and his chest, the burns are fairly significant.

‘Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning. Right now, they’re in that progression of somewhere between deep second and third-degree burns to the face.

‘We’re hoping we can keep them from progressing by using these alternate treatments, including good wound care and hyperbaric oxygen and aggressive surgical management.’

Jay was rushed to hospital before being transferred to the Grossman Burn Center in LA.

‘He’s Jay leno, he’s walking around, he’s cracking jokes,’ Dr Grossman added. ‘His injuries are serious, his condition is good.

‘I do anticipate him making a full recovery.’

According to TMZ, Jay was working on a car in his garage on Saturday when there was a fuel leak.

Petrol sprayed on his face and hands, and a spark appeared to trigger an explosion – setting him on fire.

Thankfully, his friend Dave sprang into action and jumped on him, which managed to smother the flames.
