Scott Mills was flushed with embarrassment fearing he was responsible for locking Katy Perry in the loo.

In an exclusive interview with Guilty Pleasures, the BBC Radio 2 presenter relived his far from bog-standard encounter with the US superstar.

‘It was the old Radio 1 building, so old, and it had the worst toilets you can imagine. The door handle was notoriously awful,’ he explained.

‘I had just used the toilet, and I came out, and Katy was waiting to go in, and it was that awkward thing of,
“Oh, hello!”

‘She went in next, and the handle did break off. I don’t know, was it my fault? I was outside the loo going, “Are you OK?” She’s like, “The handle’s come off!”

‘The only other option – which I actually have had to do before – is to climb out of the small window. I had visions of her having to do that!’

Fortunately, the team were able to get The One That Got Away singer out safe and sound with her dignity intact. And Scott assured future celebrity guests that the Beeb now has ‘lovely toilets, so that won’t be a problem anymore’.

The 49-year-old DJ’s Great Scott TreadMills challenge for BBC Children In Need kicks off today, with the former Strictly fave spending 24 hours on a treadmill.

He admitted: ‘I am feeling nervous. How do you train for this? I’ve been on really long walks, and I’ve been doing the treadmill for, sometimes, three, four, five hours.

‘My legs already feel a bit wonky… so when people go, “Are you ready?” I don’t know.

‘Jo Wiley did a similar thing in 2014 and she sent me a picture. She had a blister the whole size of her heel. It’s awful, the most horrendous thing I’ve ever seen. It’s starting to be in my dreams now. I became the first person in the dream not to be able to do it.’

Scott’s challenge is being broadcast live on Radio 2 and BBC iPlayer. He will also appear in a special edition of DIY SOS tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
