Ticketmaster has confirmed that Taylor Swift fans made history after millions attempted to buy presale tickets for the singer’s first tour in five years.

The website experienced a huge amount of traffic after the Blank Space artist shared news of her upcoming Eras tour that will kick off in the new year.

Explaining they saw ‘historically unprecedented demand’ for tickets to the North American leg of Taylor’s tour, the site also received complaints about wait times and backlog during their purchase attempts.

Going on presale on Tuesday, the 52-date tour will be the performer’s first in five years following the release of her new album Midnights, that became the biggest of this year after just one week.

As is regularly the case with in-demand fixtures, shortly after the official retailer opened their presale market, the Guardian reported re-listings of tickets on websites like StubHub for a startling £19,100 each.

Acknowledging the pleas of fans to address site outages and complications, Ticketmaster denied its operation was down but did say on its Twitter support account that it was ‘aware fans may be experiencing intermittent issues with the site’.

The message further reassured fans the ticket wholesaler was ‘urgently working to resolve’ the issues.

Speaking to CNN, a company representative said: ‘People are actively purchasing tickets.’

Posting a notice on its main Twitter feed, the company offered updates on the tour ticket sale, revealing ‘hundreds of thousands of tickets have been sold’ with ‘millions’ trying to snap up tickets and urged anyone still in the queue to ‘hang tight’.

The huge escalation in demand caused presale release times to be pushed back five hours for certain locations including dates in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Santa Clara and Seattle.

General public ticket sales are set to open this Friday, November 18.

The highly anticipated musical tour will be Taylor’s first time back on the road since 2018 and has been titled, Eras.

Beginning in March 2023, shows will start in Arizona and make their way back to Los Angeles for a string of finale events in early August.

Along the way, fans will be treated to a number of surprise appearances from friends of the Bad Blood singer including the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Haim, Paramore and Girl In Red.

American fans won’t be the only ones that get to see the megastar back in live action as she recently confirmed a UK Midnights tour was definitely on the cards soon.
