It turns out that making a movie about Eurovision isn’t enough to snag highly sought after accommodation, with Will Ferrell asking for help to get his mum somewhere to stay in Liverpool next year.

Back in 1999 Will was introduced to Eurovision by his Swedish wife, but it wasn’t until nearly a decade later that he announced he would be writing and starring in a movie inspired by the singing competition.

While initially scheduled to be released in May 2020 to coincide with the contest, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga ended up being released a month later after the pandemic caused the cancellation of the competition.

It had a tonne of cameos, including Eurovision commentator Graham Norton, as well as several former entrants, including Austria’s Conchita Wurst, Israel’s Netta, Norway’s Alexander Rybak and Ukraine’s Jamala.

But while Will has already attended Eurovision for research when it was held in Lisbon and Tel Aviv in recent years, he’s said his mum now wants to join in on the fun.

‘You know my mother really wants me to take her to Eurovision, she’s dying to go and she’s always wanted to go to Liverpool,’ he said on BBC Radio 2.

But adding that he knew that ‘the hotels are all booked [out now]’, he’s hoping to get some help to put him and his mum up.

‘We need a clean, tidy room. We’ll share a room – two bunk beds that’s all we need. I know we’re kidding but my mom would love that, she’d be thrilled,’ he said.

Liverpool will host the event on behalf of Ukraine, which won the 2022 contest with hip-hop troupe Kalush Orchestra.

The United Kingdom’s act Sam Ryder finished in second place and with the ongoing Russian invasion, the Ukraine was deemed to dangerous to stage the bash, and subsequently it will be held on UK shores for the first time in over 25 years.

But within minutes of it being announced that the city would be hosting, hotels totally sold out for the dates, between May 9-13.

So if anyone is happy to host the Hollywood star, now’s the time to let him know.

The Eurovision Song Contest will air live from Liverpool on May 13 on BBC One.
