WWE continues to innovate and has now unveiled a brand new match called the Iron Survival Challenge.

As announced by NXT boss Shawn Michaels during Tuesday night’s episode of the company’s developmental show, the never before seen bout will take place at NXT Deadline on December 10.

He said in a video: ”NXT is a brand focusing on developing the stars of tomorrow, but also a brand focused on innovation.

‘On Saturday, December 10th at NXT Deadline we will present to you a revolutionary new match never done before in WWE history – the Iron Survival Challenge.’

Both a men’s and women’s version will be part of the show, and the Heartbreak Kid explained the rules, which include elements of Iron Man and Championship Scramble matches, as well as TNA Wrestling’s King of the Mountain.

Five superstars will complete in the bout, which carries a 25-minute time limit and sees two stars start with a new wrestler joining them every five minutes until all five are in the ring.

‘The goal is to have the most falls when the clock hits 25 minutes,’ WWE has explained, with falls being won ‘at any time via pinfall, submission of disqualification’ and each earning the competitor one point.

The superstar who lost a fall will be forced to leave the ring and stay in a ‘penalty box’ for 90 seconds, at which point they can re-enter the match.

At the end of the 25 minutes, the wrestler with the most points will be named Iron Survivor for their respective bout, as well as the Number One Contender for the NXT or NXT Women’s Championship.

As noted, the bout will combine elements of other matches to create a new spectacle, with the time limit and points system coming from more traditional Iron Man Matches.

The multi-star aspect to it is reminiscent of the Championship Scramble bouts, which would see five stars competing – also against the clock – to still be the champion when the time limit expired, while the penalty box system was part of TNA Wrestling’s King of the Mountain.

NXT Deadline airs live on December 10 at 1am on the WWE Network.
