Mad Max fans will be delighted to hear that while starring in the upcoming prequel Furiosa, Anya Taylor-Joy was ‘the dirtiest’ and ‘bloodiest’ she had ever been.

Production just wrapped on the film, directed by George Miller, which will also star Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, and Angus Sampson.

Joy will star as Imperator Furiosa, a renegade warrior who first appeared in Mad Max: Fury Road played by Charlize Theron.

The film will act as both a prequel and spin-off of Fury Road, telling the origin story of Furiosa.

Speaking about the role, the actor, 26, said she is ‘incredibly proud’ of the film and those she worked alongside.

‘It’s the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely saying something,’ The Witch star told IndieWire.

‘Any time I get to be dirty or bloody and not perfectly prim and pretty, I’m just having a ball, that’s where I feel most comfortable. So yeah, Furiosa was definitely right up my street.’

Mad Max: Furiosa is set to be released in the UK on May 24, 2024.

Despite not having her own driving license, the star also revealed she took part in her own stunt driving for the film.

She also recently said she had to drive a boat in complete darkness for comedy horror The Menu.

The film – also starring Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult – saw Joy take on a particularly challenging scene at night.

She told Metro.co.uk at the glitzy premiere: ‘There’s a scene where I got to drive a boat and on that particular night we were doing it, you couldn’t see anything and on either side, it was just land and houses.

‘So I was going at quite a quick pace and I could have definitely taken out someone’s house. I was like, “La la la la la, crossing [my] fingers that I don’t kill anybody.” But it was great!’

It’s those kinds of challenges that make her love the job, as she added of her incredible roles over the years: ‘Every single film requires you to learn different things but that’s one of the beautiful things about this job.’
