I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2022 star Charlene White has been defended by her Loose Women colleague Denise Welch over the RV debacle, who dubbed a critic ‘utterly pathetic’ for their remarks.

This week on the ITV programme, former health secretary Matt Hancock was voted as the first camp leader of the series, with the politician making Charlene his deputy.

Not only did this mean they were exempt from doing any chores, but they were also granted the treat of sleeping in an RV – although Charlene decided she’d rather sleep outdoors after finding a spider in her bed.

Charlene’s continued reluctance to sleep in the RV has sparked frustration among some of the campmates, as it’s meant that there’s been one fewer bed to sleep on in camp when the ITV newsreader could be resting on an actual mattress indoors.

Some viewers have also criticised Charlene over her decision, speculating that she didn’t want to sleep in the RV alongside Hancock, with one recently tweeting: ‘Nah I don’t like Charlene man. If it was any other person in that RV she would be in there without hesitation. So much bullying this year.’

However, Denise was quick to jump to her friend’s defence, responding to the tweet by writing: ‘So not sleeping in a room with a man who stopped her being with her dying aunt makes her a bully!!! Sort your ridiculous head out!!!’

Shortly after Hancock entered the camp, Charlene opened up to him about how during the pandemic, she’d been unable to visit her aunt in hospital during the first wave of the pandemic before her death.

‘I had to sit by myself in the church at her funeral. We couldn’t hug each other because we were following guidance,’ she told him.

‘And I get that you fell in love, I understand all of those things, but sorry for a lot of families like mine doesn’t really cut it.’

Hancock later told Charlene that he was seeking ‘forgiveness’, before they shared a hug.

The Twitter user who Denise responded to added in a second tweet that their reference to ‘bullying’ wasn’t regarding Charlene’s decision not to sleep in the RV.

‘Just to clarify, I did not say that refusing to sleep in the RV is bullying. That was a different point to the tweet. The bullying is passive bullying by sly remarks, digs, two faced comments,’ they wrote.

I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9pm on ITV.
