Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri breaks down in tears trying on glasses for deaf people that show subtitles: ‘This is going to change lives’-Pierra Willix-Entertainment – Metro

Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri has broken down in tears when testing glasses for deaf people that show subtitles in real-time.

Born completely deaf, the reality star has said ‘growing up wasn’t easy’, but has now come to see her disability as her ‘superpower’.

Making history as the first-ever deaf person to appear on the ITV2 reality show, Tasha has spoken about her experience openly while her boyfriend Andrew Le Page also recently surprised her by getting a tattoo of a cochlear implant.

On Thursday, she shared an ‘emotional’ video on social media that showed her getting to try the XRAI glasses, a new ground-breaking technology.

‘Even with my cochlear implant, I struggle still in certain situations, for example at the cinema there’s no subtitles, in group conversations with noisy backgrounds, with TV that’s not subtitled, I now can use these glasses and not miss out,’ she captioned the Instagram post.

‘The fact that the text is in real-time as well is just insane.

‘As you can see I got emotional because wish I had XRAI Glass growing up, it would have helped me massively but I know this is going to change many many peoples lives that can’t even have access to a hearing aid or a cochlear implant – I’m truly proud to be a part of this amazing company.’

When testing the technology, Tasha called it ‘amazing’ and quickly got emotional.

‘Even with a cochlear implant I still struggle. This is going to change a lot of people’s lives,’ she said.

‘I wish I had this when I was younger.’

She added that despite having a cochlear implant, she still found it difficult at times to go to the cinema, watch certain TV shows without subtitles and keep up with conversations.

When she was a year old, Tasha’s parents learnt she was deaf and when she was five, she had a cochlear implant fitted.

She recently said that while growing up she tried to hide the fact she was deaf, she now saw it as a ‘defining’ part of herself.

‘It’s something that’s special and different.’
