Matt Hancock’s girlfriend Gina Coladangelo has heaped praise on the former health minister for his appearance on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, insisting it would be ‘difficult not to be impressed’.
A fair proportion of the country might disagree there.
Hancock’s former aide and now girlfriend, who he was caught kissing during the height of the Covid pandemic, recently arrived in Australia to support him.
Asked whether she’s impressed, she said: ‘It would be difficult not to be impressed, he has done really well. He’s made of tough stuff.’
She added to the MailOnline that ‘obviously’ she’s missed Hancock, and said that the campmates ‘all seem to be getting on okay,’ with their Bushtucker trials.
Hancock, who is a sitting MP, sparked fury with his appearance on the show, and while some have argued that he’s shown himself to be likeable, others disagree, and many haven’t forgotten about his actions during the height of the pandemic.
A 35-metre banner calling for his exit was recently flown over camp. It read: ‘Covid bereaved say get out of here!’

A spokesperson for Hancock told Metro.co.uk that he continues to support the Covid inquiry and he’ll continue to meet all the deadlines.
‘Matt has already handed over his phone and given full access to all his emails and text messages, when requested by Parliament.’
Last week, Hancock told his fellow campmates that he was ‘looking for forgiveness’ after being grilled on breaking his own lockdown rules.

In the Bush Telegraph, Hancock said: ‘In a way, lots of the campmates asked questions that the public have got as well, and it’s only respectful to just give completely straight and truthful answers.’
When Scarlette Douglas pressed Hancock on his actions, he replied: ‘That’s why I apologised for it.’
Loose Women’s Charlene Douglas then grilled Hancock with her own personal story, saying ‘sorry doesn’t cut it.’
She shared: ‘It’s massively bigger than that. My aunt died from Covid in the first wave. So, we couldn’t go to the hospital to go and visit her.
‘I had to sit by myself in the church at her funeral. We couldn’t hug each other because we were following guidance.
‘And I get that you fell in love, I understand all of those things, but sorry for a lot of families like mine doesn’t really cut it.’
Scarlette echoed: ‘It’s not enough.’
Hancock admitted stories like that are why he ‘regrets’ what happened before Charlene questioned: ‘Do you have regret regarding the way that as Health Minister you dealt with the pandemic as a whole?’
He replied: ‘So the pandemic as a whole no, I’m much, much more robust in my defence of it,’ before defending his actions as health secretary.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
