Ozzy Osbourne ‘overwhelmed’ to be nominated for four Grammy Awards-Rebecca Sayce-Entertainment – Metro

Metal icon Ozzy Osbourne has said he feels ‘overwhelmed’ to be nominated for four Grammy Awards at this year’s ceremony.

The 73-year-old rocker is up for best rock performance as well as best rock song for Patient Number 9 featuring Jeff Beck.

He is also nominated for best rock album for the LP of the same name and best metal performance for Degradation Rules, which features his former Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi.

It follows a successful year for the iconic Black Sabbath vocalist, who performed during the explosive closing ceremony at this year’s Commonwealth Games in his hometown of Birmingham.

In a new interview, the rocker, 73, said it was great to be ‘acknowledged at this point in [his] career’.

‘I’m honestly overwhelmed. Making this record was a great way to me to get back to work as I continued to heal,’ he told Consequence.

The Crazy Train star already has three Grammys, including the Lifetime Achievement Grammy he received in 2019.

Ozzy – who has Parkinson’s disease – underwent major life-altering surgery this year to correct neck and spine issues stemming from a nasty 2019 fall.

And on top of that, he couldn’t do much due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so making the record kept him busy doing something he loves.

‘Well, the thing was I had all this time – we all did through the pandemic. Instead of lying there and just doing my physical therapy, the record actually got me doing something that I love,’ he continued.

‘I was thinking about the times we’ve been living in. There wasn’t much good news. It was a f******g war in Ukraine and the pandemic. The world seemed to be on the brink of a bad thing.’

Elsewhere, the star recently revealed he would prefer to be played by an unknown actor in his upcoming biopic rather than a famous star like Johnny Depp.

Ozzy will be the subject of an upcoming biopic charting his whirlwind relationship with his wife Sharon Osbourne. 

The film will look at Ozzy’s life between 1979 and 1996, with the project having been confirmed to be in the works in 2020.

The official announcement came last October when it was revealed Lee Hall, the writer behind Billy Elliott and Sir Elton John’s Rocketman biopic, would be writing the script, while the couple’s eldest daughter Aimee prepared the treatment.
