Ant and Dec have revealed Charlene White didn’t actually break any I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! rules with the RV controversy.

There’s been plenty of drama since Matt Hancock became the first camp leader of the series and he made Charlene his deputy, which meant the pair not only had to dish out chores for the rest of their campmates, but were exempt from helping out at all.

They also had a chance to enjoy a more comfortable night’s sleep together in the RV, but Charlene refused to take a kip in the vehicle with the former health secretary.

The Loose Women star was less than impressed with the spiders in the camper – and in her bed – so she simply decided to stay outside in her hammock instead, which left fans accusing her of breaching camp rules.

However, hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec O’Donnell have taken to Twitter to clarify the rules – which certainly sound more like guidelines at this point.

‘The rules said that only the leader and deputy are allowed to stay in the RV, it didn’t state they HAD to… #ImACeleb,’ Ant and Dec tweeted on their joint account.

Well, that settles that then.

They’ve not commented on scenes from Thursday’s episode which saw Charlene show Hollyoaks star Owen Warner the best way to slice up eel for dinner, while she also told A Place In The Sun’s Scarlette Douglas the optimum cabbage chopping technique.

Over in the Bush Telegraph, comedian Babatúndé Aléshé admitted that Charlene ‘may have lended a hand in the kitchen’, pointing out that she wasn’t supposed to as deputy, while Boy George insisted the cooking situation can bring out ‘a bit of a power struggle with some people in camp’.

Later, Scarlette confided in Babatúndé and revealed she was frustrated by Charlene’s instructions, as the comedian responded: ‘I saw the whole thing.’

Viewers were also annoyed by the ITV newsreader’s assistance in the kitchen, given she’s not allowed to lend a hand and had already been sleeping in the camp instead of the RV.

However, her Loose Women co-star Denise Welch strongly defended her on Twitter, writing: ‘Why should she share a room with Matt Hancock. Her aunt died without her whilst he broke his own rules!!’

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1.
