Helena Bonham Carter has potentially played her most unusual role to date – a hallucinating lemur with a penchant for millipedes.

The King’s Speech actor takes part in a hilarious parody of an awkward audition in an advert for new streamer ITVX and seems somewhat confused by the director’s request.

Sat on a chair in an audition room in front of two ‘directors’, The Crown star is put through her paces in the unorthodox casting process.

One of the casting staffers says: ‘We thought we’d ditch the script. We’re watching TV and what’s just come on? A Year on Planet Earth. What’s your favorite animal?’

While Helena responds a ‘bear’, the director insists that she channel a lemur, telling her to imagine she’s perched on a branch.

A mildly baffled Helena, opens her eyes wide open with her hands curled into claws before she’s instructed to say hello to an imaginary millipede.

After saying hello to the insect, the director tells her to pick up the creepy crawlie and to take a bite out of his head.

‘But you just told me he was my friend,’ the Ocean’s 8 actor shoots back.

He responds: ‘It’s nature you know. It’s cruel.’

As she takes a huge gulp, the Cinderella performer is informed that, in fact, the bug has a toxin that makes lemurs hallucinate.

The trip means Helena as the lemur now believes she is a pigeon as she pretends to fly in the audition room.

The director announces that she is now ‘completely free’ like ITVX, a new streaming service due to launch on December 8, which has ‘more free shows than anywhere else.’

The streamer will have over 10,000 hours of free programming, including the upcoming Nolly, which stars Helena, and is about the unceremonious sacking of the Crossroads star.

Succession star Matthew Macfadyen will be in Stonehouse, showcasing the life and times of disgraced Labour minister John Stonehouse, while John Boyega has curated a collection of his favourite films for the service.
