Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the royal family sent him a letter after the death of his son.

During his bombshell interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the Manchester United player didn’t hold back about how unhappy he was at the club, but there was a moment where he spoke about the ‘spectacular support’ he received from the British people after his baby died.

The football star and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez had been expecting twin earlier this year, but in April they announced that while she had given birth to a girl, their son had died.

Speaking to Morgan on Talk TV, Ronaldo was asked about the support he received at the time, which he shared also came from the Queen herself.

‘I never, ever expected that. Never. I have the opportunity now to say, to the English community, thank you a lot for that, it kind of helped with me,’ he said.

‘I received a letter from The Queen’s family as well and that surprised me a lot.

‘This is why I say, I respect a lot, the English community, English people, because they’ve been very kind with me. And in that difficult moment of my life, the support was spectacular.

‘The way they treat me, me and my family in that difficult moment, I should say straight to the camera thank you, “thank you, to the all English community that helped me in that moment”.’

During the interview Ronaldo also said that he had the ashes of his son Angel in a chapel in his home.

‘His ashes are with me, like my daddy, they are here in the house,’ he said.

When sharing the loss of their son, the couple wrote in a statement that they were experiencing ‘the greatest pain that any parent can feel’.

Ronaldo also told Piers that he struggled to understand ‘why it happened to us’, and the conflicting emotions of having his daughter Bella survive.

‘Georgina, we had quite difficult moments because we don’t understand why it happened to us. It was difficult to be honest, was very, very difficult to understand what’s going on, in that period of our life,’ he said.

‘I never felt to be happy and sad in the same moment. I never felt it. It is hard to explain.

‘So difficult. You don’t know if you cry or you don’t know if you smile. Because it’s something that… you don’t know how to react. You don’t know what to do, to be honest.’

When the Queen died in September, Ronaldo also paid tribute to her.

‘I pay my respect to her memory and I mourn this irreplaceable loss with the country that I’ve learned to call home,’ he wrote.

Piers Morgan: Uncensored airs weeknights at 8pm on TalkTV.
