Louis Tomlinson may have found fame on The X Factor, but he isn’t rooting for the show’s rumoured return just yet.
In an exclusive interview with Guilty Pleasures, the former One Direction singer – who went on to serve as a judge – cast doubt over plans to reboot the series.
Earlier this month, Simon Cowell predicted that The X Factor would ‘more likely than not’ be back on our TV screens in 2024.
Louis, who, like the rest of 1D, auditioned as a solo artist 12 years ago, said: ‘Let me be completely honest about this – and, maybe, I shouldn’t – in my opinion, it needs a bit of a longer rest. I’m a massive fan. You see so many shows come back that we grew up with, and there is a real excitement.
‘I just don’t think it has been away long enough. But who am I to say that?!’
Meanwhile, Louis’s second solo album, Faith In The Future, has been battling Bruce Springsteen for No.1 in the UK charts this week.
The 30-year-old dad-of-one, who recently underwent surgery for a broken arm, is ‘immensely proud’ of his first album, Walls, in 2020. ‘There was a weight to it, emotionally, which was right for me at the time,’ Louis explained. ‘But it’s not how I carry myself as a person.’
As for his follow-up, he went on: ‘I was excited to go into this record and make exactly what I want, without worrying about what I “should” be doing… being brave enough to go, “Well, this is exactly who I am, take it or leave it!”’
