Ralph Fiennes had a hand in changing the the final scenes of his new film The Menu, with it ultimately ending on a more emotional note.

The actor stars as a celebrity chef in the new flick, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult, who play the guests attending his gourmet restaurant who encounter a fair few shocks along the way.

Without spoiling anything, the ending is pretty dramatic – but it was originally written differently, with Ralph providing key notes on how it should play out.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk at the premiere, producer Betsy Koch revealed: ‘The ending did change.

‘It was still the same spirit. It was just a slightly different twist on it. I feel like this one feels a little more emotional and is a little more rooted to character which is a great thing.

‘Ralph had a lot of great notes on that final scene too, we incorporated some of his notes. That final sequence, he tied it more into his character in a really smart way, in a really thematic way.’

It wasn’t just Ralph that had input on the story and characters, however, with many of the stars improvising lines.

‘There were so many good improvisers,’ Betsy added. ‘We obviously shot the script but Mark [Mylod, director] did improvise and wanted to riff. Aimee Carrero and John Leguizamo riffed two of the lines that I think get some of the biggest laughs.

‘It was them bringing that talent of just rolling with it and coming up with pitches, it was just fun.’

Due to the way it was filmed, many of the actors had to be ‘on’ for up to 12 hours at a time, with Anya also telling us: ‘Being in character, it’s more when we’re rolling, none of us ever really stepped off set and that was incredible because it just meant that you constantly had to be coming up with new ideas.

‘And I had the best partner for it, so Nick and I had a blast.’

The Menu is in cinemas now.
