Tim Allen has shared an update on Jay Leno after visiting the comedian in hospital after he suffered serious burns in a car fire.

Jay, 72, was left with ‘significant’ burns after a car in his garage ‘erupted into flames’ while he was working on it.

The former Tonight Show host was rushed to hospital for treatment but is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

His friend and fellow actor and comedian Tim, 69, told TMZ that Jay was doing well under the circumstances and he is still ‘handsome’.

Speaking on his way back from visiting him in the hospital, Tim told the outlet: ‘He’s good. It’s wonderful because he’s feeling better.

‘I gave him some car magazines, he did some jokes, because that’s what we do. We commiserated and just connected as friends, it’s the one thing you can do.’

When asked how Jay’s face was looking, Tim replied: ‘His face looks great, before joking: ‘It didn’t look all that good to begin with.

‘He’s going with the George Clooney look, you’re going to be surprised.’

Tim added: ‘He’s handsome and he’s happy and the hospital is doing a great job taking care of him.’

Jay is being treated at the Grossman Burn Center in West Hills, California, after suffering deep burns to his face, hands and chest.

Dr Peter Grossman, who is treating Jay, previously said he suffered a mix between second-degree and possibly some third-degree burns.

‘When got pulled out from the area underneath the car, it was noted that he had pretty significant burns to face and hands,’ various media outlets reported that he said.

‘His burns include his face, his hands, and his chest, the burns are fairly significant.

‘Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning. Right now, they’re in that progression of somewhere between deep second and third-degree burns to the face.

’We’re hoping we can keep them from progressing by using these alternate treatments, including good wound care and hyperbaric oxygen and aggressive surgical management.’

Jay was also seen covered in bandages as he underwent treatment in a hyperbaric chamber which helps to ‘decrease swelling, increase blood flow with good oxygenation and decrease bacteria,’ according to his doctor.
