BTS star Jungkook certainly got football fans hyped up after delivering an electric performance during the Qatar World Cup opening ceremony.

The Dynamite hitmaker performed his new song Dreamers at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday, kicking off the football tournament alongside several other artists including Robbie Williams, and many more soon to be revealed.

It’s safe to say fans worldwide were in awe of his opening, as several have praised the star for kicking off the FIFA tournament perfectly.

’80K LIKES IN 15 MINUTES THE WHOLE WORLD IS TUNING IN!!!!!!,’ one person wrote.

‘Jungkook did AMAZING, I’m so happy for him getting to preform like that, he’s come so far,’ another added.

The 25-year-old musician recently came under fire for performing at this year’s global event due to Qatar’s human rights controversy.

Qatar has laws banning same-sex sexual activity, with those found guilty given lengthy prison sentences or even the death penalty.

More than 6,500 migrants have also died while building seven new stadiums for hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Women’s rights are also severely restricted in the country.

A report earlier this year also found that more than 6000 migrant workers have died in Qatar since it won the right to host the World Cup 10 years ago.

While fans were looking forward to seeing Jungkook take centre stage, others were divided.

One critic wrote on Twitter: ‘Jungkook performing at the world cup in Qatar is the most hypocritical s**t I’ve ever seen. One day they’re at the UN advocating for Human Rights, the next days he’s in Qatar getting millions for a performance despite grave HR violations. So the UN stuff was just performative huh.’

Another said: ‘Okay I LOVE BTS but why does no one understand that we should not be like OMG JUNG KOOK SO PROUD but that we should be angry that BTS takes part in a World Cup everyone knows has violated human rights…promoting the World Cup in Qatar sucks, don‘t pretend like it doesn‘t.’

Elsewhere, Shawshank Redemption actor Morgan Freeman made a surprise appearance.

As Morgan was invited to ‘come on over,’ he answered: ‘I’m not sure. Am I welcome?’

Morgan was then told: ‘We sent out the call because everyone is welcome. This is an invitation for the whole world.’

‘I remember even after hearing the call, instead of seeing another way, we dismissed it and demanded our own way,’ he said. ‘And now the world feels even more distant and divided. How can so many countries, languages, and cultures come together if only one way is accepted?’
