All Elite Wrestling star Saraya won her first match since December 2017 as she made her highly anticipated return to the ring at AEW Full Gear.

The former Divas Champion, who was known as Paige during her time with WWE, left the company when her contract expired in July before signing for Tony Khan’s rival promotion two months later.

On Saturday night, she found herself in the ring against Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and overcame the former AEW Women’s World Champion.

Although there was some shaky moments due to ring rust, a clearly emotional Saraya deserves credit for what she’s overcome after suffering a career-ending neck injury in 2017 before officially announcing her retirement the following year.

Fast forward to 2022, and the Norwich-born star pinned Britt in her first AEW match to mark her comeback with a victory.

It will be fascinating to see where she goes from here, particularly with fellow Englishwoman Jamie Hayter now holding the Interim AEW Women’s World Title after beating Toni Storm at Full Gear.

Meanwhile, Saraya has revealed the work that went into preparing this weekend for her comeback, with the medical team focusing on her neck to make sure everything was exactly as it should be.

In a press conference after the show, she told the media: ‘Before the match, they worked on my neck, heated it, put those electric pads on. Then they did all the pressure point stuff and they said, “We’ll do this every single time you’re here, even when you’re not wrestling.”

‘After, they checked on me to make sure I was okay. They massaged it a little, and made sure everything was good. “I promise you guys, I’m so good.” Everyone is totally cautious, they want to be. I’m 100% fantastic and I feel good.’

Meanwhile, Saraya has admitted it might take her time to find her feet in the ring as the lifelong fan and performer gets used to the physicality again.

Alongside a string of crying emojis, she tweeted: ‘Shaking the ring rust off. But after 5 years man.. It felt so good to be back.’

AEW Full Gear is available to watch on demand via Fite TV.
