Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical cast members couldn’t have been further away from their on-screen counterparts as they walked the blue carpet in London ahead of the film’s cinema release this Friday.

Following the stage version in its musical score and scripting, the film tells the classic story of the young girl with an overactive imagination and daring bravery that inspires her to rewrite her story.

The entire cast pitched up to The Curzon Mayfair on Monday and showed off their smiles for the line of photographers to celebrate the cinematic take on the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical.

Sharing a sweet moment together, acting veteran Dame Emma Thompson – who plays the ghastly Miss Trunchbull – wrapped her young co-star Alisha Weir (Matilda) in a big hug as they fought off the wind to strike a pose.

The 13-year-old Irish actress, who wore a pretty red dress at the premiere, has appeared in Darklands and Don’t Leave Home before stepping into Matilda’s shoes for the musical extravaganza.

Alisha won the coveted role when she was an 11-year-old drama student living in the Knocklyon area of Dublin.

Her short, tussled blonde locks were complimented by minimal makeup and a bold red lip.

Also in attendance was Andrea Riseborough, who plays Matilda’s mum Mrs. Wormwood, and she certainly turned heads with a newly shaved buzzcut.

Pulling her fellow stars into a tight embrace, the 41-year-old actress kept cast members warm by shielding them with her long black satin cape that covered a stunningly tailored gown of the same colour.

The star that usually sports over-the-shoulder-length red curls has played in Birdman, Made in Dagenham, Nocturnal Animals and most recently, Margot Robbie’s Amsterdam.

Andrea’s onscreen nother half Stephen Graham acted out the loud, brash character of Mr. Wormwood who, with his wife, drive young Matilda to conjure up creative ways to rebel against her current life situation.

Portraying the role of the lovely teacher Miss Honey, James Bond actress Lashana Lynch offers Alisha’s character solace and encourages her to spend time indulging her fantastical imagination.

The heart-warming family film will be released on Netflix on Christmas day, December 25, and is in cinemas from Friday November 25.
