Armie Hammer’s father, Michael Armand Hammer, has died at the age of 67.

The US businessman built his career in an investment banking firm and oil and gas company Occidental Petroleum, which his own grandfather had been elected president and CEO in 1957.

Call Me By Your Name actor Armie branched away from the family business and has made a big name for himself in Hollywood, though has been out of the spotlighting recent years amid abuse and assault allegations.

The 35-year-old, who was the subject of a recent Discovery+ documentary, has fiercely denied all claims against him.

His father is understood to have died on Sunday after a long illness, with a source telling TMZ the businessman had been battling cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Misty, as well as Armie and the actor’s brother Viktor, younger by two years.

As well as his lucrative oil career, Hammer also owned multiple businesses, including the prestigious Hammer Galleries, film company Hammer Productions, and charities the Hammer Foundation and Hammer International Foundation.

The Hammer family featured heavily in recently-released documentary House of Hammer, with certain extended family members claiming there was a ‘darkness’ in the Hammers going back ‘generations’.

In the documentary, messages and voice notes allegedly sent by Armie were shown, in which he appeared to show cannibalistic fantasies and sexual fetishes.

The actor was accused of sexual abuse in early 2021, which he has always vehemently denied, with the claims being explored in the upcoming film.

Armie has consistently denied all allegations of sexual abuse and rape, stating that all interactions with the women in question were consensual.

His attorney, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement to Metro.co.uk at the time: ‘From day one, Mr. Hammer has maintained that all of his interactions [with every sexual partner] have been completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.’

Following the allegations, Hammer was dropped by his agent and cut from a series of projects.
