This will surely get you in the festive mood.
An update on the Charles Dickins classic Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (Picture: Netflix)
Hands up if you love a good festive film?
Well it turns out you don’t have to watch a Christmas movie just on the day, as cinemas and streaming platforms are set to release some big movies all in time for the festive period.
They range from a classic remake to a Die Hard meets Bad Santa combo.
Here is what’s on offer.
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol boasts an all-star British voice cast (Picture: Netflix)
This computer-animated adaptation of the classic 1970s musical Scrooge features new numbers and a mouth-watering British voice cast. Luke Evans is Ebenezer, but keep your ears peeled for the likes of Olivia Colman, Johnny Flynn, Jessie Buckley, Fra Fee and Jonathan Pryce.
In cinemas now, on Netflix from December 2
CBeebies Panto: Dick Whittington And His Cat
Catch the Dick Whittington And His Cat live show in a cinema (Picture: BBC)
Filmed in front of a live stage audience – but cheaper than going to an actual theatre. The cast of the CBeebies annual twinkles with nursery-age-appropriate celebrities such as Ben Cajee (as Dick Whittington), Alex Phelps (as his Cat) and, of course, Mr Tumble himself, aka Justin Fletcher.
In cinemas from December 2
Violent Night
Violent Night is directed by Tommy Wirkola (Picture: Universal Studios)
And at the opposite end of the festive spectrum… Die Hard meets Bad Santa in this naughty, but fun, action comedy thriller starring David Harbour (sheriff Jim Hopper in Stranger Things) as a hard-drinking, fully weaponised Father Christmas on a mission to take out the bad guys.
In cinemas from December 2
Your Christmas Or Mine?
Asa Butterfield and Cora Kirk star in this snowy Britcom (Picture: Prime Video)
Two loved-up students (Asa Butterfield and Cora Kirk) inadvertently end up swapping family Christmases with, naturally, hilarious consequences in this snowy Crimbo Britcom from the director of Catastrophe, Jim O’Hanlon. Co-starring stalwarts Alex Jennings, Daniel Mays and Harriet Walter.
On Prime Video from Dec 2

A Muppet Christmas Carol
Is Michael Caine the only one who doesn’t look like a Muppet? (Picture: Walt Disney Pictures/Jim Henson Productions)
Sir Michael Caine just about retains his dignity among the Muppety mayhem, terrible puns and singing rats in this 30th anniversary reissue. Forget the children – we’re guessing the main audience for this is nostalgic adults. See you by the pick’n’mix.
In cinemas from December 2
This Is Christmas
This Is Christmas stars Alfred Enoch and Kaya Scodelario (Picture: Sky)
Bit of a bossy title, don’t you think? Alfred Enoch and Kaya Scodelario are up-to-London commuters who break the British train taboo when they invite their entire train carriage (including Timothy Spall, Ben Miller, Joanna Scanlan, Jack Donoghue, Jeremy Irvine et al) to a Christmas party.
Released on Sky Cinema and NOW from December 8
