I’m a fashion expert – four outfits totally inappropriate for a work Christmas party & will make you look tacky

PARTY season is upon us and that calls for sequins, glitter and glamour.

But when it comes to your Christmas work do, there are certain fashion rules you can stick to to make sure you’re not on the worst dressed list.

While J-Lo can pull anything off, plunging necklines and corsets are a big no-go for the work doAFP

While you may have a strong urge to ditch the day-to-day office wear and transform yourself into a glamazon (make-over movie style), you have to err on the side of caution with how far you push your style boundaries – particularly if the boss is around.

That means no thigh high slits and kinky Christmas costumes are out. Here, fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend tells you the inappropriate looks to be avoided at your work Christmas party.

PLUNGING NECKLINES

A sexy plunging V-neck is all well and good for a night out with your pals or with your partner, when it comes to a work party they’re a big risk.

Any chance of a wardrobe malfunction should be avoided, you don’t want that moment etched in colleagues’ brains forever.

A plunge that stops at your bra line is fine, but anything lower is dangerous.

CORSETS

Corset tops were a wardrobe staple during the nineties and have become a party wear go to again in the past few wears.

While the waist cinching and bust boosting top is great for enhancing your figure, if you slip one on for dancing around the photocopier you might raise eyebrows as they can be mistaken for underwear.

As an alternative, try a square neck top that isn’t as fitted and doesn’t lift your bust up, they’re just as flattering and sophisticated.

HIGH SLITS

Extreme thigh highs may be good for celebs on a red carpet, or for us mere mortals on a night out but not when it comes to your work Christmas do.

Thigh high slits come with extreme caution, one gust of wind (and let’s face it, with the great British weather, there will be) and you’re exposed.

Thigh high slits that are just a few inches above the knee should mean that you won’t face any embarrassment – and if in doubt always wear tights.

KINKY COSTUMES

If you’re a student you can get away with playing dress up as an adult, endless themes and parties warrant a festive fancy dress look.

However, if you’re going to a work party then dressing up as a sexy elf, Santa, tree – anything – is inappropriate.

By all means have fun at home with kinky looks but they are not to be seen by colleagues who will never see you in the same way again.
