Jay Leno’s burn marks were clearly visible as he was pictured driving his vintage Corvette following a hospital visit to treat engine explosion injuries.

The former late night chat show host was left scarred after one of his vintage collection car engines exploded in his face while working on the 1907 vehicle in his garage.

Just 10 days after receiving intensive treatment to quickly heal the burn marks, the 72-year-old shared he would be returning to the stage this Sunday.

Seen riding around Los Angeles in a grey Corvette, the star was snapped on his way to the studio with the result of the explosion clearly visible across his fingers and face.

The celebrity sighting came just one day after Jay was released from care at the Grossman Burn Centre where he received a plethora of treatments for the incident that happened almost two weeks prior.

To aid healing and prevent infection of his face, chest and hand burns, the comedian was cared for in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Jay’s doctor and resident practitioner at the Grossman Burn Clinic, Peter Grossman, released news of the broadcaster’s condition in a statement before his discharge from the centre.

He said: ‘I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery.’

The statement also mentioned: ‘Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes.

‘He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.’

Taking advantage of his first day out in the open, Jay was spotted whizzing round the sunny city in three different cars from his collection.

First, he sat behind the wheel of his 2002 Mercedes, next it was time for the light-blue two-door vintage Maserati to make an appearance and finally the spotlight was on his grey old-school Corvette.

Stopping to chat with photographers, the host confirmed his return to the stage when he said: ‘Yeah, I’ll be performing Sunday at Comedy and Magic club Sunday.’

Making light of the situation in typical Leno fashion when prompted to take more rest by the eager paparazzi, the comedian quipped back: ‘Yeah, I need barbecue.’
