Matt Hancock has opened up about his struggles with dyslexia on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, revealing how difficult he found a particular word-based challenge.

Ahead of going into the jungle, the former health secretary claimed that his motivation for joining the ITV series was to raise awareness of dyslexia, a learning difficulty that affects a person’s ability to read, write and spell.

While it took until the final week for the politician to finally bring up the condition on the show, on Wednesday night’s episode, he spoke at greater length about how having dyslexia has impacted him personally.

Hancock and Mike Tindall were tasked with taking on the Bushtucker Trial, in the hope that they could score a delicious treat for camp.

The pair arrived at the challenge area to discover balloons containing letters, which they had to pop using spiked helmets placed on their heads.

The letters they found formed an anagram, which is when a word or phrase can be rearranged to spell something else.

Turning to his challenge partner, Hancock said: ‘I’m terrible at anagrams, I’m dyslexic, so all the letters are already in an anagram, so it’s on you.’

The MP added that ‘being dyslexic, I find anagrams really hard’, admitting that ‘all I could see was the word tiny’.

Meanwhile, Mike also found the challenge tricky, stating: ‘This is harder than it looks! Turns out I don’t have the ability to figure out where a point is on my head.’

Nonetheless, in the end they did manage to complete the challenge before the sand timer ran out, meaning they had a chance of winning chocolate chip cookies for camp.

However, yet again the campmates fumbled the bag when it came to the Dingo Dollar treat, answering a question about Adele’s albums incorrectly.

Earlier this week, Hancock recalled finding it hard to read at school due to his dyslexia while speaking to comedian Babatunde Aléshé, who was the latest star to be eliminated from the jungle last night.

Hancock explained that when he found out he was dyslexic, it made him realise he’s wasn’t ‘useless’.

‘Instead of feeling I was just rubbish at something and useless, it was ah… so actually I am OK with language, it’s just my brain works differently and I can work on that,’ he said.

I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9pm on ITV.
