If you’ve held off buying Modern Warfare 2 so far then it sounds like you’ll get a chance to play it for free next month.
Leaks claim that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will offer a free-access weekend in December if you were wondering whether to add it to your Christmas list.
Although the game has been a huge commercial success, there are still a few players who haven’t been convinced to put their hands in their pockets and pay £70 for it.
If you’ve already had a taste of Warzone 2 and you’re unsure whether to go for Modern Warfare 2 as well, you might want to wait for the free weekend to make your decision.
A new leak claims that this will be the first of many free weekends to come, starting after the game’s mid-season update. Although it’s almost certainly only the multiplayer that will be free, not the campaign mode as well.
In the UK, free access will supposedly kick off on Thursday, December 15 to the early hours of Monday, December 19 – although no official announcement has been made yet.
This information was first reported by well-known Call Of Duty leaker Tom Henderson, who was given the information from sources ‘with knowledge of Activision plans.’
So far, there are no details on what more is to come with the mid-season update, except that the multiplayer map Shipment is set to make a comeback.
However, even after hearing about the free weekend, some Call Of Duty fans still insist they’re unlikely to end up buying the full game.

Another player even suggested that Activision makes the multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare 2 free-to-play and only charge for the campaign, as a solution to reducing the game’s cost.
I think they should make the multiplayer free to play and only charge for the campaign to be honest. If they were responsible this could work, especially if they choose less abusive monetization systems like the ones in TF2, CS:GO or Fortnite. It could work.

Besides the mid-season update for Modern Warfare 2, Activision also plans to release an update for Black Ops Cold War on December 6, according to Henderson.
However, it’s still unclear if this will be a standard patch or add new content to the 2020 game.

In the meantime, if you’ve been following the World Cup but you’re also a Call Of Duty fan, Modern Warfare 2 will also be allegedly getting a new mode called COD Ball.
In this mode, you’ll be able to drive all-terrain vehicles to score goals with a large ball, kind of like how Rocket League works.
For now, you can take a sneak peek at what’s hiding under operator Ghost’s mask, as his whole face was leaked on Reddit by a dataminer.
