The long-awaited console versions of Valorant are finally underway but they probably won’t be out anytime soon.
Riot Games has always expressed interest in bringing Valorant to PlayStation and Xbox but it’s never actually it and many console players have lost hope it will ever happen.
Unlike other Riot Games titles, such as League Of Legends, which wouldn’t be possible to play on consoles, Valorant’s first person shooter mechanics don’t pose any obvious problems.
Now, several recent job listings seem to confirm that Riot Games is actively looking to build a team to port the game over to consoles, finally taking this much-awaited leap.
The company is looking for a Game Design Manager as well as a Senior Game Designer for consoles, with one of the roles’ descriptions making it clear that it’s looking for a person to develop ‘a vision for combat in Valorant on consoles.’
Valorant would not be the first game of its kind to receive a console version, as other titles such as Counter-Strike and Rainbow: Six Siege have Xbox and PlayStation versions.
However, it will become Riot Game’s first game to make it to consoles, as apart from League Of Legends spin-off Hextech Mayhem the company usually keeps to mobile and PC.
On console, Valorant’s main rival will likely be Blizzard’s Overwatch 2, as both shooters have a few similarities, such as characters with abilities and a base 5v5 matchmaking system – though Overwatch 1 used to be 6v6.

No timeline has been given for Valorant’s console release but it looks to be a way off yet, given that Riot Games still seems to be in the team-building process.
There are also rumours of Valorant being made available for beta testing on iOS and Android devices, which may happen sooner.
Riot Games has been focused on mobile for some time now, having launched multiple games such as Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra.
